We believe that not only the members of the Methodist church, but also the people of Pomeroy generally were pleased to learn that the Rev. Mr. Moore had been returned for another year. Seldom does a small town like Pomereoy secure a minister as able and possessing as fine social qualities.

Reports Realty Sales

N. O. Baldwin reports the sale of the N.D. Knettle property on the southeast corner of Columbia and Fourth, to the Methodist church. It is understood that the church has purchased this property for a site for a building soon to be erected.

[Note that during the Great Pomeroy Street Renaming, Fourth became Eighth street. I'm not sure if the 'southeast' is a mistake by the newspaper, but the church is on the southwest corner.]

Cornerstone to Be Laid By Dr. U. V. Hauk, Superintendent of Walla Walla District

The dedicatory services for the new Methodist Episcopal church will be held on Sunday, April 6, under the direction of the Rev. Bishop W. O. Shepherd, of Portland, Oregon. The service is to start at 8 o'clock in the morning.

The corner stone behind which will be placed the names of the members of the church, the names of those who have contributed to the building of the church, a copy of the Pacific Christian Advocate and the East Washingtonian, will be laid by Dr. U. V. Hauk, superintendent of the Walla Walla district, at 10 o'clock. Special services will be held throughout the day with a young people's meeting in the afternoon and a special Epworth league service at night.

Invitations Are Sent

Invitations to many out of town people have been sent and a large attendance from neighboring towns is expected.

Former pastors who have been invited to attend these services are Andrew Monroe, A. S. Mulligan, J. F. Reed, T. F. Fertig and J. C. Kirkman.

Plan Special Music

Music will be furnished by the church orchestra of which Archie Holmes is director and Miss Gladys Horrell, Miss Mary McFadden and Worth Bryars are members.

A choir partially consisting of H. M. Ridenour, M. W. Fitzsimmons, Stanley Gawne, T. W. Gawne, Worth Bryars, Glenn Manning, Lewis Long, Mrs. C. E. Kuykendall, Miss Doris Roeder, Miss Margaret Joliffe, Mrs. Mary OcKinga, Mrs. Kathryn Elsen-sohn, Miss Mary and Winifred Start Miss Nellie Bryars and Archie Holmes will assist with the music.

Church Nears Completion

With the exception of the basement the church will have been completed at this time. Excavation was. started February 28, 1921, the foundation being completed during the summer. The first brick was laid in April of 1923.

The members of the building committee are: C. E. Kuykendall, chairman, Mrs. C. E. Kuykendall representative of the Ladies' Aid; Worth Bryars, representative of the Epworth League; James Oliver, Jeffrey Williams, C. W. Fitzsimmons, C. G. Shawen, H. O. Boyles and Thomas Crozier.

Classes To Use New Church Wing

During the Christmas vacation, the desks and supplies for Mrs. Elma Austin's fourth grade class will be moved from the basement of the Christian church to the new educational wing in the Methodist church.

At the school board meeting Thursday evening, officials of the Methodist church offered the use of the wing to the district and it was accepted as it was felt that the quarters would be more suitable then the present ones.

The second grade classes of Miss Carol Dragseth's and Mrs. Otto Fitzgerald's, now in the Methodist church will also be moved to the new wing during the holiday.

Still remaining in the Christian church Fellowship house will be Lottie Watson's third grade section.

Methodist Church Marks 73rd Year

The Methodist church in Pomeroy will observe its 73rd anniversary this Sunday, April 7, with the dedication of memorials.

A set of chapel chimes have been attached to the Hammond organ and will be dedicated at the morning worship service as a memorial to Alan Gibson who was a faithful member of the local church at the time of his death.

A worship center with a laminated wood cross has been installed in the north assembly of the church. This will be dedicated in honor of the late Mrs. A. L. Tefft who was for many years an active leader in the Sunday school. She was also active in the Woman's Society of Christian Service locally, in the district and also held conference offices.

Dedicated in the memory of Mrs. Ida Harkins will be a large pulpit sized Bible which will be used in connection with the memorial worship center.

Leading the dedication service and bringing the message Sunday morning will be the Rev. Willard Stanton. He was former superintendent of the Vancouver district and is now head of Wesley Gardens, a home at Des Moines, Washington, sponsored for retired persons by the Methodist church.

The Rev. Alden Graves, superintendent of the Walla Walla district, will also take part in the morning worship service and dedication.

Following the morning worship service members and friends of the congregation will join in a potluck, anniversary dinner in the church basement At that time the anniversary cake will be cut. The cake will bear the numbers 73, 33 and 3.

This season marks the seventy-third anniversary of the organization of the local congregation in Pomeroy. It is the thirty-third anniversary of the dedication of the original section of the present building and the third artniversary of the completion of the first step of the present building program. That step included the installing of the new chancel and the complete repair and rededication of the building which was completed in 1924.

The day will come to a fitting climax with an organ concert in the sanctuary at 5:00 p. m. In this concert the new memorial chimes will be featured. Mr. Kee, a well known Spokane organist will be at the console of the organ for the concert. Local organist and the local choir will also have a part in the service. Following the formal concert, Kee will discuss informally, the organ, its use, and any problems that anyone may want to bring.

"The community is invited to share in any of the services of this anniversary day. The organ concert is specifically planned so all may enjoy it without neglecting the services of their own church," says the Rev. Lloyd Alden, pastor.
