The meeting will be held at the Pomeroy Senior Center (7th and Main) at 7:00 p.m. In the fall of 2002, the City of Pomeroy received a grant from the Washington Office of Archeology and Historic Preservation (OAHP) for the purpose of preparing a National Register Historic District nomination for Pomeroy's downtown. After a six-month study, a draft District nomination has been completed, and submitted to the City and State for review. The final District nomination was submitted to the Washington OAHP on April 18, 2003. The State Advisory Council will review the proposed District on June 27th in Bellingham, Washington. Pomeroy has a rich history represented by the variety of buildings that survive from the town's early development. Pomeroy has a long history as the business, governmental, and social center of Garfield County. The Pomeroy City Council took the initiative to preserve these significant historic resources by passing the Pomeroy Historic Preservation Ordinance in August, 2002. The ordinance also created the City of Pomeroy Historic Preservation Commission to identify and preserve historic resources, and promote the rehabilitation of these buildings through tax incentive programs. At the May 6 meeting, the Downtown Pomeroy Historic District Nomination will be presented to the community. Downtown property owners and the general public are invited to attend. Sally Donovan, Historic Preservation Consultant and preparer of the nomination, will present a slide show about the community's history and the District nomination. ## 30 ##
