Boom! And we jump forward 15 years to 1936 for the After Easter Clear-Away of New Spring Coats at Penney's in Pomeroy.
With a sale slogan that definitely wouldn't work in the 21st Century, Penney's announced their Summer White Sale for 1936.
In October, 1970, the East Washingtonian had this article on their front page
Scoggins Attend J.C. Penney Fete
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Scoggin of Petoskey, Michigan, have returned home from a party in Portland, Oregon, honoring James Cash (J.C.) Penney on his 95th birthday.
The party was attended by 400 executives and associates of the firm. Scoggin, retired manager of the Penney Store in Petosky, said the honoree was in good health and spoke to nearly 500 persons at the final banquet.
Scoggin, a native of Garfield county and once an employee of the Pomeroy Penney store, also said Mrs. Penney recalled a viit she made to Petoskey some 40 years ago and asked about the people she met.
Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Penney had honeymooned in the Petosky area at that time.
